St George's Park - Chapter 23 - Frank Brache and Hassan Howa
Frank Brache, an earlier defector to WPCU played a pivotal role by liaising with Hassan Howa during the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. He would set up meetings for Howa whenever top international sporting organisations would come to Cape Town. This special link prompted SACU to mandate Brache to make contact with the SACB. He met Howa at the home of Ebrahim Dawood in Heathfield. Brache informed Howa that 20 South African Companies were prepared to donate R1-million for the development of cricket facilities throughout the country. The companies were not concerned as to who would be involved.
Hassan Howa showed interest and Brache contacted Ali Bacher in December 1986. Bacher flew to Cape Town and met Howa and the WPCB’s executive in the home of Ebrahim Dawood on January 5, 1987. After the meeting Howa invited Bacher to visit with him the SACB’s under 19 tournament which was in progress at Mitchell’s Plain.
