St George's Park - Chapter 14 - SACBOC's Application to ICC for Associate Membership
In July 1974 SACBOC resolved to apply to the International Cricket Conference for associate membership. The Government refused to grant Hassan Howa a passport to attend the conference. Basil Bhana and Essop Pahad, members of SANROC (South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee) submitted the application on behalf of SACBOC but the White affiliates of the ICC (England, Australia, and New Zealand) turned it down.
As isolation gripped South Africa the non-racial sports unions began to boycott venues which were frequented in the past to acquaint themselves with the latest developments in the game of cricket.
