St George's Park - Anton Murray
Anton Ronald Andrew Murray Born Grahamstown, 30th April, 1922. Schoolmaster. Married with three daughters including twins. Educated at St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown, and Rhodes University. After enlisting in the S.A. Artillery during the last war, transferred to the Raiding Support Regiment and served for three years as a parachutist with the U.K, Forces. The tallest man in the side (6 ft. 2 in.), Murray is poweriully built and very fit. He has been included as an all-rounder, being a sound batsmen, fine field, and in addition to his seam bowling can also break both ways. Has represented his Province since 1947, scoring 1,045 runs and capturing 48 wickets in 18 matches. .Has one century to his credit (133 v. Western Province in 1947-48), and the same season took 7 for 30 against Orange Free State. A versatile sportsman who plays golf, tennis and squash and has alsd appeared in hockey trials for Eastern Province. South African Cricket Annual - 1951 -1952 |
