St George's Park - Eastern Province vs Orange Free State, 1950
Eastern Province vs Orange Free State, 1950December 31 1949 - January 1, 1950
At Graaff - Reinet.
Eastern Province won by an innings and 142 runs.
E.P. completely demoralized the O.F.S. in the first provincial match ever played at Graafi Reinet.
Hird won the toss and thereby gained a great advantage over the visitors who had to bat later on a wearing wicket.
The highlight of the E.P. innings was a hard-hitting knock by Murray who scored his 108 in just under 32 hours and hit two 6's and twenty one 4's - he was dropped when he had 1.
A sound innings by Waite, who helped Murray in a stand of 117, and a vigorous one by Jordaan lasting only 65 minutes, helped to bring the score up to 404.
The O.F.S. opening pair batted well to put on 62 runs for the first wicket, but then against the well-flighted off-breaks of Hird, the visitors were dismissed twice on the second day, with only Warner, Koch and De Jager showing any confidence at all.
Hird had a match analysis of 16 wickets for 71.
