SOME 15,000 metro residents will watch the 2003 ICC Cricket World Cup final between bitter rivals India and Australia on a massive screen at Adcock Stadium in Port Elizabeth on March 23, 2003.

Nelson Mandela metro spokesman Roland Williams said the screening of the day-night clash, via satellite, was planned as an event for the whole family.

He said all 15,000 tickets made available for the free screening were quickly snapped up.

“It will be difficult to get in if you don’t have a ticket, but we will try and accommodate you,” Mr Williams said.

Visitors are encouraged to bring picnic baskets. Top national acts Ringo, Kabelo, Ihashe’Elimhlope and local artists will provide music entertainment before and after the match.

The LED screen is specially designed to broadcast a colour video image in normal daylight conditions.

The screen can be viewed up to 130m away, and from 120 degrees wide.
